I was born in Fulda in 1936 and spent most of the years of my life here. During my school years at the Realgymnasium I studied violin, viola and piano and was taught harmony and counterpoint by Heinz von Schumann. When I was twelve years old, my first experiments in composition began. Small orchestral pieces of mine were performed at a school theater event of «Turandot», in 1962 a string quartet, in 1963 and 1975 pieces for the «Chamber Orchestra of Youth Fulda» under Manfred Kroh and in 1991 an Entrada for the «Concertino Fulda» under Traute Haselbach. In addition to the old music, I have always been interested in newer composers, especially Hindemith and Bartok in my youth.
Professionally I worked as a lawyer - after some years in Frankfurt, Marburg, Kassel, Speyer, Berlin and Darmstadt I became chancellor of the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda until 1999. My free time was determined beyond my family and cultural connections by my love of hiking in the mountains or kayaking on the rivers of Europe. Since retirement, I have been making music and composing more intensively again. Erwin Jacobs
